Groms Open Rookie Fest opens the World Rookie Tour season
The World Rookie Tour season has officially kicked off with the Groms Open Rookie Fest, hosted at PenkenPark in Mayrhofen, one of the most respected freestyle snowparks in Europe. The event delivered high-level riding, international participation and a clear message: the next generation of snowboarders is ready to step up.
Held in a perfectly shaped park and supported by solid snow conditions, the Groms Open Rookie Fest brought together young athletes from different countries, competing across Groms, Rookies and Girls categories. The overall level of riding highlighted not only technical progression, but also maturity and confidence rarely seen at such a young age.
In the Grom Boys category, Hayden Jacobs (AUS) dominated the competition, claiming both the event victory and the overall title. His consistent performance across the runs set him apart from the rest of the field, confirming his position as one of the most promising young riders on tour. He was followed by Ricco Nawarkiewicz-Wisniewski (POL) in second place and Logan Cuss (AUS) in third, completing a podium that showcased strong international depth.
Groms Boys Podium
The Rookie Boys competition further underlined the global reach of the World Rookie Tour. Sunny Lane (AUS) secured the top spot with a solid and composed performance, ahead of David Hlavasek (CZE) in second place. Ethan Owen (GBR) completed the podium in third, confirming the high standard of riding across multiple nations.

In the Girls category, Sofie Veberova (CZE) stood out with a confident and technically clean run, earning the victory. She was joined on the podium by Valerie Schwab (GER) in second place and Maja Krauerova (CZE) in third, highlighting the strong presence of emerging female talent within the tour.

Beyond results, the Groms Open Rookie Fest played a strategic role in the World Rookie Tour pathway. Thanks to their podium finishes, all medalists have already secured their qualification for the World Rookie Tour Snowboard Finals, scheduled from March 21 to March 28 at Kitzsteinhorn, Zell am See–Kaprun. Competing on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier represents a major milestone for any young rider aiming to progress within the international freestyle scene.
With this opening event now in the books, the World Rookie Tour looks ahead to the next stops of the season, continuing to offer young snowboarders a structured, international platform where progression, competition and long-term development go hand in hand.
