ICE Agent Shoots Woman Dead on Minneapolis Street, Protesters Clash With Cops
2:15 PM PT -- The dead woman was identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, the Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Minnesota officials said she was "a legal observer of federal actions in the city" and was not the target of an immigration-related arrest, WCCO-TV reports.
Chaos is growing in Minneapolis right now after an ICE agent shot and killed a woman who allegedly "weaponized her vehicle" against officers ... and the incident and the aftermath were recorded on video.
ICE agents approached an SUV in traffic on a residential street as neighbors congregated and recorded the scene with their phones Wednesday morning ... video shows the vehicle lurching forward, and gunshots are heard, and the SUV crashes into a parked car. The female driver was struck in the head and was pronounced dead at a hospital, according to local reports.
Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told TMZ ... "rioters" began blocking ICE officers from conducting targeted operations Wednesday when one of them "attempted to run over" law enforcement officers "in an attempt to kill them."
X posts show video from the scene ... agents get out of a pickup truck on a residential street, with neighbors out on sidewalks recording the scene. One agent can be heard saying "Get out of the f***ing car," appearing to be talking to the driver of a Honda Pilot ... the vehicle backs up, then veers forward, and three gunshots are heard -- then the vehicle crashes into a parked car.
McLaughlin said ... “An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement, and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots. He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers. The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. Thankfully, the ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries."
Check out the video at the top of the page ... it shows the aftermath at the scene, as protesters shout at officers and agents standing by. Through the open passenger door of the Honda, a bloody airbag is visible, along with children's toys spilling out of the glove compartment.
Another video shows an officer shooting a protester in the face with a less-lethal weapon.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said the unidentified woman was 37 years old, local station KARE 11 reports. It's currently unclear whether the woman who was shot was the target of an immigration-related arrest. DHS announced this week a surge of 2,000 ICE officers would be operating in the city.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey held a news conference not long after the incident ... at a podium surrounded by law enforcement officials, Frey had a message -- "To ICE: Get the f*** out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here. Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety, and you are doing exactly the opposite."
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz released a statement on X ... "My public safety team is working to gather information on an ICE related shooting this morning. We will share information as we learn more. In the meantime, I ask folks to remain calm.”
Walz had strong words at a news conference later Wednesday ... he made it clear he's angry about the woman's death, and he urged Minnesotans to remain calm in the wake of the controversy ... he said the Minnesota National Guard is being deployed, and he told President Donald Trump and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem the state does not want any further help from the federal government.
The shooting was being investigated by the FBI.
