Swiss ski bar not inspected for five years before deadly fire, officials say | BBC News
Officials in Switzerland investigating a fire at a ski bar which killed 40 people on New Year's Day said no safety checks, inspections or audits had been carried out at the venue between 2020 and 2025.
Crans-Montana’s mayor, Nicolas Feraud, said: "We regret that - we owe it to the families and we will accept the responsibility.”
Officials also announced a ban on the use of sparklers in local venues - sparklers on bottles carried too close to the ceiling were the likely cause of the fire, a preliminary investigation has found.
A criminal investigation has been launched into the French couple who managed the La Constellation bar - a venue known to be popular with a younger crowd in the ski resort town, where the drinking age is 16.
