Simu Liu Wants DC's Next Wonder Woman To Be 'The Copenhagen Test' Co-star Melissa Barrera
Simu Liu is throwing his support behind his 'The Copenhagen Test' co-star Melissa Barrera for DC’s next Wonder Woman, praising her commitment to stunt work as “Wonder Woman-esque.”
Simu Liu thinks Melissa Barrera could be DC’s next Wonder Woman.
During a recent interview with JoBlo, Liu praised his The Copenhagen Test co-star’s dedication to action training, comparing her fierce approach to that of the iconic Amazonian warrior.
“She really pushes herself,” Liu said of Barrera. “I don’t know who might be listening to this interview, James Gunn or anybody else out there. But I think she really pushes herself. There were a couple of moments during stunt training where I was like, ‘That’s Wonder Woman-esque.’ I’m just throwing it out there.”
Liu’s comments come as DC Studios continues developing a new Wonder Woman movie. In June 2025, DC co-chief James Gunn confirmed that a fresh film centred on the superhero is “being written right now.” The project accompanies an upcoming HBO series focused on Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s mythical homeland, which Gunn described as “slow-moving, but it’s moving.”
Screenwriter Ana Nogueira, known for Supergirl and the upcoming live-action Teen Titans, was tapped in July 2025 to pen the script for the new Wonder Woman instalment.

Gunn previously mentioned that Hit Man star Adria Arjona could also be a strong contender for the part. “I follow Adria on Instagram, but everybody came out and thought, ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman,’” Gunn told Extra. “She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.”
Gal Gadot remains synonymous with the role for many fans, having first portrayed the superhero in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before leading Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman films and appearing in Justice League, Wonder Woman 1984, and brief cameos in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash.
Whether Barrera enters the conversation officially remains to be seen, but with Liu’s endorsement, it’s clear she’s already caught the attention of fans eager for a new era of Wonder Woman.
