Simu Liu Wants Melissa Barrera to Be the DCU’s Wonder Woman
We know that Wonder Woman will be James Gunn’s DCU. We also know that Gal Gadot will not return to her role as the Themysciran heroine. And, at least as of early 2026, there is no one cast in this role so far. However, if Simu Liu a.k.a. Shang-Chi himself has any say, he’d want Melissa Barrera to become the next woman to portray Wonder Woman.Liu and Barrera recently co-starred in The Copenhagen Test on Peacock and he had nothing but high praise for her. “She really pushes herself,” he told JoBlo in a recent interview. “I don’t know who might be listening to this interview, James Gunn or anybody else out there. But I think she really pushes herself. There were a couple of moments during stunt training where I was like, ‘That’s Wonder Woman-esque.’ I’m just throwing it out there.”As we know, Melissa Barrera rose to US fame via her role as Samantha Carpenter in Scream (2022) and its sequel Scream VI. She was controversially fired due to her political comments, but that hasn’t slowed down her career thus far. She was an absolute delight in Abigail and has a couple of films currently in the works. But hey, if they can put lifts in Robert Downey, Jr.’s shoes to make him seem taller, anything is possible. And, to be fair, Gal Gadot is a tall lady but she is not super ripped. Barrera can certainly take on the tougher shooting elements and get physical, which has to be a part of the job as a DCU hero.Warner Bros. Still, if I were Melissa Barrera, I’d be trying to put my name in the casting hat for Wonder Woman.
