Two Irish men among 2025 top 50 richest sporting figures in the world
A Global Statistics site has compiled a list of the wealthiest sporting figures in the world in 2025 and two local men make the extraordinarily wealthy cut - despite one recently passing away. The well-known social media account shared their chart online and used data from the Celebrity Net Worth site. It's only a collection of the absolute super rich with Spanish tennis superstar Rafa Nadal just making it in 50th place with a wealth of £220million. At the opposite end of the chart is basketball icon Michael Jordan who has accumulated more wealth since he retired than when he was an all-conquering NBA star with the Chicago Bulls.Wrestling chief Vince McMahon is in second place with the WWE/WWF insititution and other investments earning him a cool £3.2billion.In third place is a relative unknown name, Ion Tiriac, a former tennis player. The Romanian made his fortune by leveraging his sports fame into a vast business empire after retiring from tennis, focusing on banking, insurance, real estate, and luxury car dealerships, becoming Romania's first billionaire. There are two famous Irish sporting superstars who feature on the list and it's no surprise to see Rory McIlroy in 43rd place with an estimated wealth of £250million.That figure stems from his massive PGA Tour and DP Tour winnings, lucrative endorsements with brands like Nike, TaylorMade, Omega, and NBC Sports, and significant entrepreneurial ventures, including co-founding TMRW Sports with Tiger Woods and investing through his firm Symphony Ventures.Motorsport hero Eddie Jordan almost makes the top 10, but sadly passed away earlier this year at the age of 76. Jordan's wealth was estimated at £600million at the time so he still makes the 2025 top 50 wealthiest sporting figures. The Dubliner got rich primarily through shrewd investments and the eventual sale of his Formula 1 team, Jordan Grand Prix, but also through diversified ventures in gaming, property, entertainment, and even launching vodka and energy drinks, leveraging his F1 fame and business acumen into a substantial fortune. The full list can be seen at https://x.com/Globalstats11Click here to sign up to our sport newsletter, bringing you the latest sports news, headlines and top stories
