Aled Jones 'didn't know' full Walking in the Air

Aled Jones “didn’t know” all of Walking in the Air when he went to record it. Aled Jones became famous for Walking In The Air The 54-year-old star shot to fame when he sang the theme from The Snowman at the age of just 14, but he wasn’t originally supposed to be performing the entire song until a producer had a change of plan. He told Yours magazine: “I was never meant to sing the full version of Walking in the Air. “I was supposed to sing 10 or 12 bars of it. “I went to the studio where the producer said, ‘You might as well sing the whole song.’ “I didn’t actually know the whole thing, so I quickly learned it and recorded it.” And Aled never expected the song to be so huge. He added: “I didn’t expect anything from it. “The next thing I know, I’m on Top of the Pops and the rest is history.” While Aled isn’t “scared” of ageing, he’s aware life is short so is determined to make the most of every day. He said: “Life isn’t infinite so grab every opportunity. “Ageing doesn’t really scare me but I don’t like the sense of a time limit. “I’m aware that we’re not here forever. “There’s still so much I want to do and I try to grab every opportunity and make the most of each day. Sometimes it’s easy to forget.” The Songs of Praise host has never taken his success for granted and works as hard as he can. He said: “Sir Terry Wogan, my great friend and mentor, gave me the best advice. “He said, ‘Spread yourself as thinly as possible so it’s hard for people to get rid of you.’ “I’ve always remembered that, and I’ve worked hard and never taken anything for granted. “As I’ve grown older, I’ve become a perfectionist. “Sometimes it’s important to remember to step back and enjoy myself.”
