Gardai break up a brawl outside crowded Cork store and seize pick-axe handle

Gardai had to respond quickly to emergency calls after a group of teenagers started a brawl outside a very busy supermarket in Ballincollig yesterday.Officers responded quickly to the scene close to the entrance at the Tesco store in the town, after staff raised the alarm shortly before 6pm. The store and the area was packed with customers doing their last-minute Christmas shopping and eye witnesses told CorkBeo that it was a shocking sight. One eye-witness told us: "I was doing the last of my Christmas shopping and when I got to the tills I heard people shouting ‘come on, come on.’“You could see them at the entrance, about six to eight young lads just beating into each other, one of them had a bat or a club, and he smashed it into something metal, you could hear it across the whole shop.“Gardaí arrived in about three minutes in all fairness to them, broke it up and took the bat away. The staff at Tesco were great, ushering people away and making sure nobody wandered into the middle of it.”A garda spokesperson told CorkBeo that officers had responded to an emergency call in the area at around teatime yesterday. They said: "Gardaí attended the scene of a public order incident at a retail premise on Carrigrohane Road, Ballincollig, Co. Cork on Tuesday December 23rd 2025 at approximately 6:00pm. No injuries were reported. Investigations are ongoing."
