Posting in the subreddit page titled "Moving to Scotland", a user shared that they and their partner were "strongly considering" a move from their village in the West Midlands to Scotland. They wrote in a post that their "mental health and outlook in general" was being negatively impacted due to the community being "horribly right-wing". It’s really affected my mental health and outlook on life in general," they wrote. The post goes on: "I brought my Canadian wife here from London to start our family, (we loved London just couldn’t afford a house at the time) as I had some background here and frankly it was a misstep, but we have two beautiful kids to show for it and have appreciated the green space and safety of rural life. "We’re all ready to leave." The pair have "visited Scotland quite a bit" and said they enjoyed Edinburgh and Glasgow, however, are looking for somewhere with "wild green spaces" and a smaller community. "Access to amenities and a 45 minute train ride to Edinburgh or Glasgow seems ideal, as well as the unbelievable access to the Highlands, Loch Lomond, Arran etc. Simply some of our favourite places we’ve ever been." One person in the replies said they now felt "safer" since moving to Scotland from England and advised against Falkirk due to the ongoing protests in the town surrounding asylum seekers. "Wanted to wish you luck, we're also a lefty couple who left Reform hell in England. I'm a migrant (and brown) and I've felt significantly safer since I moved to Scotland," they wrote, adding: "That said we're in a city, and I probably wouldn't buy somewhere like Falkirk due to recent events." Larger cities tend to mix people together and have a younger, more liberal demographic. "Stirling feels more like a large town than a city, from my experience, and it skews centre right in terms of political leanings." For how to meet people, one said: "When you arrive in a wee town, ask about any local music nights. They don’t get advertised but folk will point you in the right direction. They are a good way to meet local people both blow ins and born and bred. "You will get a very good feel for a place that way."
