Punjab to raise per family health cover to Rs 10 lakh from next month | India News - The Times of India

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government will soon provide health insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh each family of the state under Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana.The new scheme, which is expected to be rolled out by the state government early next year, will provide health cover to around 65 lakh families, which will be significantly higher from the number of families that are presently covered under the state health insurance scheme.When the state government had announced the scheme in July this year, around 45 lakh beneficiary families were covered under the government health insurance schemes, including around 29 lakh families that were enrolled under Mukh Mantri Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana, which was capped at Rs 5 lakh per annum.Punjab health minister Harpal Singh Cheema has said the scheme will be rolled out during the current fiscal with an estimated expenditure of Rs 600 crore, wherein an insurance agency and state’s private hospitals will be roped in to provide healthcare facility to around 65 lakh families residing in the state.
