Former England cricketer details terrifying Bondi Beach shooting experience
Michael Vaughan has recounted the frightening ordeal he endured whilst being locked inside a Bondi restaurant as an active shooting unfolded on Bondi Beach.At least 12 people have been confirmed dead after two gunmen opened fire during a Jewish Hanukkah celebration on the iconic Sydney beach.The shooting occurred at approximately 6:50pm local time, with one gunman shot dead and the other now in police custody. As police continue their investigation of the scene, witnesses have begun sharing their harrowing accounts of the incident.Former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan was amongst those caught up in the chaos. The 51 year old is currently in Australia providing coverage of England's Ashes tour, and following the attack, he turned to social media to describe his frightening experience whilst confirming his safety.He posted on X: "Being locked in a restaurant in Bondi was scary.. Now home safe.."But thanks so much to the emergency services and the guy who confronted the terrorist .. thoughts with all who have been affected .. xxx", reports the Mirror.The attack has now been classified as a terrorist incident, with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issuing a statement on the tragedy. He said: "The evil that was unleashed at Bondi Beach today is beyond comprehension, and the trauma and loss that families are dealing with tonight is beyond anyone's worst nightmare."We have seen Australians today run towards danger in order to help others. These Australians are heroes and their bravery has saved lives. These Australians are heroes and their bravery has saved lives. There is no place for this hate, violence and terrorism in our nation."Let me be clear, we will eradicate it. Amidst this vile act of violence and hate will emerge a moment of national unity where Australians across the board will embrace their fellow Australians of Jewish faith at this dark moment for our nation. Our police and security agencies are working to determine anyone associated with this outrage."The most recent updates on the Bondi Beach shooting indicate that police continue to investigate the incident whilst securing the surrounding area. Officers have since located and safely disposed of several improvised explosive devices discovered in a vehicle near the beach.In the meantime, widespread acclaim has been directed towards a local hero who confronted one of the gunmen on the beach.
