OpenAi sued for allegedly enabling murder-suicide | LBC
The family of a former tech worker, who killed his mother in a suspected murder-suicide after his delusions were allegedly fuelled by ChatGPT, are suing OpenAi for wrongful death.
According to a lawsuit filed in California, 56-year-old Stein-Erik Soelberg had a 'history' of mental health problems and had spent months talking to ChatGPT about what he believed was a 'vast conspiracy' against him.
In one instance Soelberg told the chatbot that he feared his mother's printer was a surveillance device that was spying on him and ChatGPT agreed, according to a YouTube video posted by Soelberg in July.
The parents of teenager Adam Raine are also suing OpenAi over the death of their son, alleging its chatbot encourage him to take his own life.
Matthew Wright is joined by behavioural psychologist Jo Hemmings to analyse the troubling consequences of interacting with AI.
