'Captivating' Irish period drama based on real events now streaming
The series is made up of five episodes Fans of historical dramas are in for a treat as a short series hailed "captivating" by fans is available to stream now.Prime Video is home to the five-episode drama, which stars some huge names like Brian Gleeson and Charlie Murphy.The story is told through the perspective of a group of fictional characters living through the Easter Rising, also known as the Easter Rebellion.The series was produced to mark the 100th anniversary of the most significant uprising in Ireland since the rebellion of 1798.Initially shown on RTE One in 2016, the Dublin-based series, called Rebellion, received positive feedback about the cast and production.The series is set during the Easter RisingRebellion was followed by a five-part sequel, Resistance, which was about the events surrounding the Irish War of Independence.Brian Gleeson plays Jimmy Mahon, a soldier for the Irish rebellion, while Charlie Murphy stars as Elizabeth Butler, a medic.On IMDb reviews, alanmowle gave Rebellion 10 out of 10 stars, calling it a "superb, emotional rendition" adding: "The programme literally had me saying prayers, I was captivated, excited and horrified with the poverty depicted, which I was personally familiar with, being moved about during the WWII."This is a highly enthralling programme, I was very disappointed to learn that episode five is the last one.
