Professor Gordon Murray CBE said: “This world record auction result is a defining moment for our entire team and for the automotive world. The S1 LM represents everything I have learned in six decades of design – a pure expression of driving perfection, engineering art, and a true return to beauty. To see it achieve this scale of appreciation is truly humbling.”'S1' stands for 'Special One'Gordon Murray As the mastermind behind the McLaren F1 LM, Gordon Murray called back to this incredible project with the S1 LM name, the first car built under the Gordon Murray Special Vehicles company. The extremely limited release of five cars feature styling inspired by the 1995 Le Mans-winning McLaren F1 GTR. The mid-engined car uses a bespoke 4.3-liter V12 capable of 710hp at 12,100rpm. Unusually for modern supercars and vehicles with this much power, Gordon Murray is sticking to a visceral driving experience with a six-speed manual gearbox. The suspension setup balances racing suitability with road-going comfort. Weight is kept down with a carbon fiber body complemented by a naked polish carbon fiber interior. The build is said to stay true to Gordon Murray’s core principles: driving perfection, lightweight, engineering art, return to beauty, exclusivity and customer journey. Unveiled at Monterey Car Week 2025, ‘S1’ stands for ‘Special One’. When the vehicle was first revealed, it was announced that all five cars had been purchased by a single collector. As yet, no further details have been released about ownership of the first four chassis. At the time, Gordon Murray said: “I love timeless design. I never want us to join the race to make the most outrageous looking supercar at the expense of balance, beauty and proportion. Look at the result, the car is timeless and beautiful.”
