I'm glad to hear this is happening. I'm certainly advising my own children along the same path. Marriage is a long commitment. It's the ultimate startup and they're going to need to make it under various assumptions. Why isn't marriage the same thing? The reason you're contemplating getting married is you're thinking big. Marriage is the biggest decision of your life. The way I put it is, the minute you get married, you've already had your first child. It's sitting at the table with you. It's called money, and it's going to be there forever.
Two-thirds of people are broke because they buy stuff they don’t need. Sneakers, shirts, gadgets... none of it makes you wealthy. What does? Saving 15% of your income, killing debt, and investing consistently. It’s boring. That’s why almost no one does it. But the people who do are the ones who aren’t 65 and still in debt. Discipline builds freedom.
Buying a home only makes sense if you’re staying put for at least five years. If you’re early in your career, rent close to work. Walk. Save the transit costs and invest them. When you start a family, that’s when you shop for a home in a community that fits your life. Rates today are 6–7%, so you’ll buy less house than your parents did, but timing it right matters more than size.
Dubai has a lot to offer… but the Burj Khalifa stands alone.
Credit cards aren’t evil, bad discipline is. I use one card with a high limit that I never touch online, one with a $2,500 limit for every online service, and a joint card for shared expenses. That’s it. Most people get crushed at 22–24% interest because they don’t control their balances. Set limits, separate risk, and stay disciplined. It saves you a fortune.
Partners think that by discussing money, it may signal the wrong thing. It may be that they don't have any and they don't want to disclose that, or it may be that they have a bad financial past. And yet, that's exactly what you wanna know. I mean, you have to deal with this problem. And I would argue that if every couple went through the prenup experience, it would actually build a better foundation for marriage.
Never hire right away. Offer a six-month contract. Pay them more than market. Give them real responsibility and watch them swim—or sink. If they thrive, congratulations, you found a star. If not, both sides walk away clean. No baggage. Smart business beats polite business.

The awareness of marriage is getting greater and greater in terms of bad outcomes. 50% of marriages fail after seven years, not because of infidelity. It's mostly financial stress. What I liked about the concept is that it forces in a period of high romantic intensity, a look at another aspect of the relationship and that's the due diligence on finance. Who are you coupling with? What is their financial background? What is their financial situation? What are their spending habits? Because the stark reality of marriage is you're forming a business. You'll have to support a family and that takes money. And so I love the premise of it.
