Neewer CB300C COB Light: Set your lighting free
Looking for some powerful lighting for photography and video in the studio? Then look no further than the new Neewer CB300C COB Light. Constant lighting has really jumped forwards in leaps and bounds of late, to the point I rarely use my strobes anymore. The new offering from Neewer is incredible—not only does the powerful 300W pack a punch, but the built-in gels and RGB function, as well as the special FX, take your creativity to a whole new level.
Neewer have been around a while now, and I honestly believe that these new lights have upped their game.
Out of the box, it’s pretty simple to use. It runs on AC power, so it’s not really suitable out of the studio, but it’s ready to go once plugged in. This light is bright. You can set it anywhere from 1% to 100%, and even at lower levels it performs beautifully. I’ve used it for product shoots, behind-the-scenes setups, and, of course, portraits—and it delivers every time. Let’s have a closer look.
Note: Neewer sent the CB300C to review. However, this is a completely independent review. All thoughts about this light are our own.
Build & Design
The CB300C feels solid and well-made, with a sturdy all-metal body and a clean, functional design. It comes with a Bowens mount, meaning you can use a huge range of modifiers—from softboxes to beauty dishes—with ease. The included reflector is effective on its own, but pair it with a softbox and it produces lovely, diffused light.
The rear control panel is intuitive, featuring a bright LCD screen and simple dials for adjusting brightness and colour temperature. The onboard menu is straightforward enough that you can get started without even opening the manual.
Performance & Output
At 300W, this thing packs serious output. The bi-colour temperature range of 2700K to 6500K gives excellent flexibility for matching ambient or creative lighting setups. The RGB mode opens up endless possibilities for colour effects, and the preloaded 12 lighting FX (like lightning, candlelight, or police lights) make it perfect for creative portrait sessions or cinematic work.
One of the standout features is how consistent and flicker-free the light is, even at high shutter speeds. Colour accuracy is excellent, with a CRI/TLCI rating of 97+, which means your skin tones and product colours look true to life without needing heavy correction in post.
Built-In Gels & App Control
The built-in gel presets are surprisingly useful. You can switch between classic colour filters like CTO, CTB, and green/magenta corrections at the touch of a button—no need to mess with physical gels or tape. Plus, with Bluetooth app control via the Neewer Light Control app, you can adjust intensity, colour, or FX remotely—perfect for when the light is mounted high or behind your set.
Noise & Cooling
The fan system is efficient and relatively quiet. It’s audible in a silent studio, but in most cases, especially for photography or typical video work, it’s not an issue. You can also switch to a silent mode if you’re recording audio nearby, though this limits the power output slightly to prevent overheating.
