Cape Con 2025 brings together the Cape Girardeau community

Cape Con 2025 took place on November 7, 8, and 9 at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. 2025 marks Cape Con’s 20-year anniversary. Cape Con started in 2005 as a convention for community members who share a love for comics. According to the Cape Con website, today it has expanded into anime, wrestling, the paranormal and more.Owner of STG Cards and Collectibles, Billy Atkins, was a first-time vendor at Cape Con this year. Atkins said there is nothing really like this around.“There is a college community here. There are a lot of people who like this kind of stuff,” Atkins said. “That’s one of the reasons I opened up here.” Atkins also said the crowd this year was much larger than when he attended last year’s Cape Con. Owner of Nerdy Nebula, Ashanti Bell, said that the crowd was quite animated. “It’s amazing. It is always nice to see people who are willing to come out and enjoy nerd culture,” Bell said. Senior Jenna Wolf attended Cape Con dressed as Goofy Goobers SpongeBob from the SpongeBob movie. Wolf said she and her friends attend Cape Con because they enjoy anime, video games and Magic The Gathering. Wolf said she and her friends love spaces where they can meet other people and interact with those who also love those things. “Cape Con is perfect for that because you have vendors selling stuff from your fandoms, but also you just get to meet a whole bunch of new people who are into the same stuff as you,” Wolf said. Wolf offered some advice to people who are interested in Cape Con, but may be apprehensive about going. “Everyone here is so open. We’re all just trying to enjoy our hobby and meet new people, so even if you’re nervous and you have to come alone, it’s still such a fun event to come to.”
