The Welsh actress—who co-wrote and starred in the BBC comedy Gavin & Stacey alongside James Corden from 2007 to 2010—was one of the many local cultural figures invited to the gathering, and in a video captured by the Daily Mail, Camilla can be heard asking Ruth, “Haven’t you lost masses of weight?” while greeting her. Um???View full post on XRuth, luckily, seemed to take the comment in stride, replying, “Yes, I have, thank you! I’ve lost a bit of weight!” However, once the video started circulating online, many viewers took to social media to slam the Queen for her lack of tact. One fan wrote, “Rich people love talking about people’s weight for some reason,” while another said, “Never comment on somebody’s weight gain or loss unless volunteered the information first. Etiquette 101. And she’s meant to be our Queen.” Yet another comment: “Really just shows her detachment from normal everyday conversation.” Yiiikes. For the record, this isn’t the first time the Queen and the actress have crossed paths (though, as many viewers noted, Camilla didn’t seem to recognize Ruth at first). Back in March, Ruth attended Camilla’s reception to mark the 15th anniversary of the Women of the World (WOW) Foundation at Buckingham Palace, where the two were photographed in conversation. Sadly it isn’t [ours] any more,” Camilla reportedly said in reply.Inside William and Camilla’s Tense RelationshipThis Camilla x Kate Report Is ShockingWills and Camilla Have Been Causing Family AngstBTW: This certainly isn’t the first time Camilla has made a public blunder like this, either. Most recently, the Queen came under fire for seemingly shooing Kate Middleton away from herself and First Lady Melania Trump during the U.S. state visit in September. That said, the royals haven’t yet issued a statement about Queen Camilla’s inappropriate weight loss comments (nor are they likely to).
