Has the US gone socialist? Maybe not the way you think. Newly-elected New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has evolved into a prominent political figure on a democratic socialist platform. Better access to public transport, rent control and universal free childcare funded by higher taxes for the super-rich and corporations.
However, the US under President Trump has gone so far as to acquire direct ownership stakes in five major publicly traded companies (Intel, MP Materials, Lithium Americas, Trilogy Metals, US Steel Corporation). Ushering in a new era of US government involvement in key industries.
