Woman 'slapped' and Mary Lou McDonald verbally abused in Dublin street incident
Shocking footage has emerged of a man shouting expletives at Ms McDonald and supporters of Catherine Connolly in a terrifying incident on Dublin’s North Strand on Friday afternoon.Gardai are investigating the alleged assault of two women after a man hurled abuse at them and Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald in the street.Shocking footage has emerged of a man shouting expletives at Ms McDonald and supporters of Catherine Connolly in a terrifying incident on Dublin’s North Strand on Friday afternoon.The man in the video admits to slapping a woman after he claims she tried to take his phone while he was filming. He repeatedly circles the crowd of Ms Connolly’s supporters and hurls abuse at them and Ms McDonald.A woman can be seen and heard calling gardai on the phone while the man continues to shout expletives at those present - including a child. “Slap the phone out of my hand, you got a slap in the face,” the man is heard saying.A woman is heard telling the man to watch out for her child. “F*ck your child,” the man responds as he continues to verbally abuse the Sinn Fein leader. The man is heard saying “your time will come” as he shouts at those present to call the guards.“I’ll give her another bleeding slap in the face now I will,” he is also heard saying. Gardai have confirmed to this paper this evening that they are investigating the alleged assault of two females in this incident. Click here to sign up and get it delivered to your inbox every week“No medical treatment was required at the scene, however An Garda Síochána understands that one of the females has since attended the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital for further assessment.An Garda Síochána is appealing to anyone with information or camera footage in relation to this incident to contact Store Street Garda station on 01 666 8000.A Sinn Féin spokesperson said: "A man assaulted a young woman who was part of a team getting out the vote near the Five Lamps in the north inner city. The Gardaí were called and are now investigating the matter. The woman has been brought to hospital for medical examination.
