A woman fatally stabbed her son’s dog to death with a samurai sword as it was sleeping on a sofa, a court heard.
Alicia Darcy attacked the pet with the Japanese-style weapon before leaving it to suffer and die with the sword stuck in its body.
She phoned the police while intoxicated, telling them she killed the dog after it attacked her at her home in Sandbach, Cheshire, on October 12.
Chester Crown Court heard that police entered the home to find the dog in a sleeping position with the sword embedded in its torso.
Darcy later admitted to killing the animal while it was resting and having an offensive weapon.
