Frank Gleeson appointed CEO of US National Association of Convenience Stores
Frank Gleeson, formerly president of Ibec and chief executive of Aramark in northern Europe, has been appointed chief executive of the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) in Washington, DC.
Gleeson will be the fourth chef executive in the organisation's 64-year history and succeeds Henry Armour who has led the body since 2005. He will take up the role on January 1.
The global trade association is the leading representative body for the convenience and fuel retailing industry.
“I am honoured to follow the successes of Henry Armour and excited to lead NACS, which has a stellar reputation both in the United States and around the world," said Gleeson.
He added that he was looking forward to building on Armour's successes and the great culture he created within NACS.
Founded in 1961, NACS has thousands of member companies, primarily in the United States but also in about 50 other countries.
Gleeson served as food services and property group Aramark's president and chief executive from 2017 to 2024, overseeing 20,000 employees in Ireland, the UK and EMEA.
He previously worked as retail director for Topaz and Statoil, and most recently he served as chair of the National Oil Reserve Agency in Ireland.
Gleeson was on the NACS international board for 19 years and the NACS board of directors for 11 years, including a term as chair from 2018 to 2019.
"When it comes to business representation, NACS is a world leader in representing the interests of the retail and fuel industries," said Danny McCoy, chief executive of Ibec.
In addition, he was president of Ibec, chair of Retail Ireland and a board member of the Irish Transport Authority.
"During his time as Ibec President, and through his chairmanship of Ibec’s Retail Ireland and Energy Committee, Frank was an extremely effective advocate for Irish businesses across many sectors.
"Frank's appointment as CEO of a leading global trade association is a testament to his success in leading large organisations such as Aramark and his long standing commitment to business representation throughout his career."
NACS has members in 50 countries.
NACS has more than 1,300 retailer and 1,600 supplier members worldwide. It is governed by a 29 member Board of Directors comprised of convenience retailers of all sizes from around the world.
