The victim, said to be in her 20s, was found in a rocky area behind the St-Nicolas church on the coast of Barfleur, Normandy around 9am this morning. She had been on holiday in the area, and had reportedly been staying with her partner in a cottage near the city's port. Police have launched an investigation, with forensic teams spotted in an area behind the church today. An autopsy was scheduled to be carried out on the body this afternoon. The cause of the woman's death remains unclear, though sources close to the investigation told Ouest France that she is believed to have drowned. Her partner was interviewed by police this morning but was not taken into custody, reports France 3. The Mirror has approached the Foreign Office for comment. Earlier this month, a British woman was knocked down and killed in France while out running with her husband. The unnamed 35-year-old was jogging in the town of Beaune in eastern France when she was hit by the car on July 8 at around 8am. Emergency services rushed to the scene and paramedics, arriving 15 minutes later, found her in cardiac arrest. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A 45-year-old driver of the car was questioned by police after being taken into custody, reported local outlet Le Bien Public. A Foreign Office spokesperson told the Mirror at the time: "We are supporting the family of a British woman who died in France and are in contact with the local authorities." In April, a British man who was buried alive in a massive avalanche that flung him across the ground died after he suffered a heart attack. Police pulled the 27-year-old man, who had entered cardiac arrest, out of the snow and provided first aid before transferring him to hospital in Grenoble. Local publication Francebleu reported that a rescue helicopter was deployed to transport him, but weather conditions meant it was not possible to reach him at the time. He was eventually rescued by the fire service but died later the same day.
