Shock and sadness following death of girl (16) in Co Down crash

Emergency services attended the scene of the serious collision in Bangor on Tuesday night.Jaidyn Rice was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the incident which happened just before 11pm on West Circular Road.PSNI Roads Inspector Cherith Adair has appealed for information.“Police eceived a report at approximately 10.55pm of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the West Circular Road," she said.Today's News in 90 Seconds - July 9th “Officers attended, alongside our colleagues from partner emergency services. Sadly, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.“She was 16-year-old Jaidyn Rice from the Bangor area.“Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision, and would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage which could assist with our enquiries.“Please call us on 101, quoting reference 1774 08/07/25, or submit information online at http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/West Circular Road was closed for a time following the crash but has now fully re-opened.The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service confirmed it received a 999 call at 10:56pm."NIAS despatched two emergency ambulance crews to the incident," a spokesperson said."No one was taken from the scene."North Down MLA Stephen Dunne has offered his "heartfelt condolences" the loved ones of the deceased.“I am deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic passing of 16-year-old Jaidyn Rice following the collision in Bangor," he said."My thoughts and prayers are with her heartbroken family, friends, and all those who knew and loved her at this incredibly difficult time.“This is a devastating loss for our local community and particularly painful given Jaidyn’s young age."Bangor is a close-knit community, and this tragic news has deeply affected so many people."I know there will be much support offered to her family in the days and weeks ahead. I would encourage anyone with dash-cam footage or any information to come forward immediately to assist the PSNI’s investigation.”Mr Dunne encouraged everyone in the community to show "compassion and care" to the grieving family "and hold them close in their thoughts and prayers".Meanwhile, emergency services also responded to a separate crash in Portaferry on Tuesday night.The Strand was also closed following a collision in the area which was reported at 11.04pm.NIAS despatched two emergency ambulance crews and a rapid response paramedic to the incident."One person was taken to the Ulster Hospital by ambulance," a spokesperson confirmed.
