Swindon murder suspect appears in court for first hearing

Indogan Erdogan, of no fixed abode, appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrates Court on Saturday morning (July 5).  The 31-year-old spoke only to confirm his personal details, with the help of an interpreter, and seemed upset at times. He is charged with killing 27-year-old Fatih Zengi in Swindon and having a knife in his possession on July 2, 2025. The court heard that the knife is alleged to have been used to commit the fatal crime. The murder charge is too serious for a magistrates' court to deal with, so the defendant has been remanded back into custody until his next hearing, which is due to be held at 2pm in Bristol Crown Court on Monday, July 7. This comes after officers cordoned off part of Manchester Road on Wednesday and Thursday to investigate an area where a man was found seriously injured outside a property. The injured man was taken to hospital but died shortly afterwards. Later that day, police arrested Mr Erdogan, who was then charged with two offences on Friday afternoon and taken into custody.
