'Huge loss', gutted locals cry as Irish grocery shop confirms closure

"The proprietor of Spar Ferrybank has made the difficult decision to cease trading early May 2025."Unfortunately, the store has been experiencing a decline in profitability for some time, despite our best efforts, it is no longer sustainable."On behalf of Aidan the proprietor, Sabrina and all of the staff, we would like to thank our loyal customers and suppliers from over the years."Best Wishes, Spar Ferrybank."Ferrybank has a nearby garage that provides limited supplies of essentials, but Spar was the last convenience store that provided the majority of the supplies, forcing residents to travel further to buy their groceries.The news of their sudden closure has sent shockwaves throughout the Ferrybank community.A loyal customer wrote: "So sorry to hear that news, it's such a shame, it sounded like Sabrina has done everything to try and keep this afloat."Would be great if someone somewhere could do something for the ferrybank community as it depends on this superstore, huge loss for the elderly......"Another person added: "Oh no, what a shame, this is so sad.
