Comedy Central UK Orders Format Inspired by Reddit’s AITA
Comedy Central UK has commissioned the new comedy entertainment show Jimmy Carr’s Am I The A**hole?, inspired by Reddit’s popular subreddit of the same name, also known as AITA.
The subreddit, which now has over 24 million members, has served as a place for people seeking judgment from strangers to settle their conflicts since 2013. The new eight-part series will invite members of the public to come before host Jimmy Carr and a panel of two other comedians to ask their controversial and funny questions, covering relationship disputes, petty family squabbles and much more.
With Carr having the final say, each candidate will leave knowing once and for all whether or not they are “The A**hole” of their situation.
Tuesday’s Child will be producing the series for Comedy Central UK. Executive producers are Steph Harris for Tuesday’s Child, Iestyn Barker for Comedy Central and Marc Beaulac, the creator of the original subreddit.
The series is set to film in late spring and air later this year.
“Seems odd that anyone would ask me to host a show about a**holes,” Carr said. “I should be grateful, but I feel a little insulted. I guess I’m an a**hole. Well, it takes an a**hole to know an a**hole, so I’m the right man for the job. I’m very much looking forward to being Comedy Central’s proctologist in residence. There are an impressive number of a**holes in our country, and they’re finally getting the recognition they deserve on national television.”
Harris commented, “‘Am I the A***hole?’ is only a question you ask if you’re convinced you’re right in an argument, but will our guests get the answer they’re hoping for when they share awkward real-life scenarios with comedians who pull no punches in delivering judgements? Our new format has found the perfect home at Comedy Central and the perfect host in the incomparable Jimmy Carr and is guaranteed to deliver bucketloads of brutally honest, hilarious a**holery.”
Barker, commissioner for Comedy Central UK, added, “We’re thrilled to have Jimmy Carr back on Comedy Central UK, in charge of sorting right from wrong in this hilarious and no-holds-barred show that will leave viewers open-mouthed with stories of ridiculous and questionable behavior.”
