Why Gen Z Is Obsessed with These Two Vintage Canon Cameras
The older Canon Powershot cameras are now being roared to life once again. We have seen that some of them are already quite popular (see here), while there are some that are gradually gaining momentum. For instance, a quick search revealed that two Canon Powershot cameras are now becoming popular once again. Which models are they and should you buy one, too? We will share that in a minute. What Google’s Keen Eyes SayIt was during our research that we noticed the Canon Powershot SX 230 HS and ELPH 110 HS trend on Google Trends. In the past 90 days, the Canon Powershot SX 230 HS has been quite popular in countries such as Argentina, South Africa, Chile, Mexico, and even Saudi Arabia. However, ELPH 110 HS, particularly the pre-owned one, has gained momentum in Brazil, France, Philleppens, Germany, and even the United Kingdom. States like Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Ohio prefer the SX series more so than the ELPH.A chart of states in America that prefer ELPH 110 HS and Powershot SX 230 HSWhat Do These Canon Cameras Offer? The Canon ELPH 110 HS was launched in 2012 and features a 16MP 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor. It has a DIGIC 5 image processor, ISO range up to 3,200, and a 24-120mm f2.7-5.9 lens with 5x zoom. There is also a 3-inch 461,000-dot fixed LCD screen, a flash range of 3.50m, and it weighs 135g. It also has a face ID function, 1080p video recording, and 58 predefined shooting scenarios. It has a 12MP CMOS sensor with a DIGIC 4 image processor. It has 1080p video and 14x optical zoom, thanks to the 28-392mm equivalent lens. The SX 230 HS also features a 3-inch LCD, but it has a logger that allows you to view your location. There are also 32 scene modes, USB 2, and image stabilization. From the look at the specs alone, the SX 230 HS seems like an ideal model for those interested in photography, especially those who want that extra zoom. This camera also has a unique round appearance, unlike the more stylike ELPH 110 HS. In addition, the price could also be a driving factor between them. A preowned SX230 HS costs just $335, while the ELPH 110 HS can cost between $390 to $425 (based on the colors). On eBay, the rates also show a similar range. Who is this For?A quick glance on social media and Reddit, the camera is used by vintage photography enthusiasts and Gen Z who love to document their surroundings. However, take a quick look at some images, and you realize that some people have been shooting for longer than others. The ELPH 110 HS will give you a slightly larger sensor and better image processor, but the Powershot SX230 HS is cheaper, has more zoom range, and a more retro-looking body. As we have said, the camera is just a tool, and it all depends on how you shoot. In the hands of a skilled photographer, both cameras would perform well.
