Currently, the Rimac Group owns 55% of the venture, with the rest belonging to Porsche.
The Croatian company could be joined by other investors to take control of Bugatti.
Porsche had allegedly once tried to buy out Rimac from the Bugatti joint venture.
Rimac has come a long way over the past decade and now operates a joint venture with Bugatti, fittingly known as Bugatti Rimac. The Croatian-based Rimac Group owns 55% of this venture, while Porsche owns 45%, but if the latest reports are to be believed, Rimac is looking to buy out Porsche’s stake in the joint company.
According to unnamed sources, Rimac has reportedly made a preliminary offer to buy Porsche’s share which previously valued the company at over €1 billion ($1.1 billion). There’s no word on how much Rimac has offered, but it could reportedly join with other investors.

Rimac has not commented publicly, and talks are reportedly still in the early stages. Still, the idea of Rimac buying out Porsche marks a notable shift in dynamics.
It’s claimed that after Bugatti Rimac was established in 2021, Porsche had tried to buy out Rimac from the joint venture. However, it now has more pressing issues to deal with, due in part to declining demand for its electric vehicles, collapsing sales in China, and supply chain disruptions.
Mate Rimac remains the largest shareholder of his namesake company, which raised €500 million from investments in 2022, including the private equity arm of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, and SoftBank Vision Fund 2.
If Rimac is able to buyout Porsche’s stake in its joint venture from Bugatti, this would give it complete control of the French marque. Rimac has been instrumental in the creation and ongoing development of the hybrid Tourbillon hypercar, but could in theory do what it pleases if it gets Porsche out of the picture. This could mean any future Bugatti models may rely heavily on Rimac’s advanced battery packs and electric motors from the Nevera, perhaps shifting completely to electric power and abandoning combustion engines altogether in future models.
