Audi’s $4 Billion US Factory Plan Draws Fire In Germany As Trump Credits Tariffs For Investment
Audi is set to build its first factory in the United States, investing around $4 billion in Georgia and creating nearly 4,500 jobs. The plant could produce up to 200,000 vehicles annually by the early 2030s.
The announcement has triggered criticism in Germany, where Audi plans to cut 7,500 jobs by 2029 and Volkswagen is considering reducing its workforce by up to 100,000. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner’s appearance alongside US President Donald Trump at a campaign rally has added to the controversy.
The investment is also expected to help Audi reduce the impact of US tariffs, which have reportedly added around €1.2 billion to the company’s costs.
