A federal judge has ruled that the Trump administration unlawfully fired Maurene Comey, a former federal prosecutor who worked on the cases of Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell and Sean “Diddy” Combs. Comey, daughter of former FBI director James Comey, challenged her July 2025 dismissal, alleging political retaliation linked to her father's longstanding feud with President Donald Trump. The court rejected the Justice Department's broad claim of authority to dismiss her and granted retroactive reinstatement through December 2025, allowing back pay and retirement benefits. The ruling does not return her to her former position.
