‘GERMAN BASES IN DANGER!’: Iran’s Direct Threat To NATO Nation As Merz Scrambles For Support
Iran has warned Germany against directly entering the military confrontation, saying German-linked bases and facilities in the region could become “legitimate targets” if Berlin participates in operations against Tehran. According to Iran’s Fars news agency, the warning is specifically tied to open German military involvement. Tehran is drawing a distinction between Germany’s existing political and military relationship with Israel and Berlin itself joining military operations against Iran. The warning potentially widens Iran’s deterrence message beyond the United States and Israel to European powers considering deeper involvement in the conflict. Germany is a NATO member and one of Israel’s closest European partners, but its military footprint across the region is considerably smaller than Washington’s. Tehran’s message, however, is that direct participation would change Germany’s status in the confrontation — and could expose German military assets to Iranian retaliation.
