India Angle: Rubio, Donald Tusk in India | WION News

India Angle: Week in Review by Sidhant Sibal
India-US ties dominated, as Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Mumbai and Jamnagar. He called India an “important ally and partner,” noting its energy diversification yet continued Russian oil imports. President Trump waived key sanctions under the Lindsey O. Graham Act, delaying possible 100% tariffs on major Russian oil buyers including India until a mid-December review. Rubio said trade talks were “incredibly close.”
Jaishankar also met a US congressional delegation and hosted UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, with both sides affirming closer ties amid strong trade and diaspora links.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The leaders reviewed the strategic partnership, defence co-production, and plans to double trade to $10 billion by 2030.
At the UN, India rejected selective criticism of its handling of protests, stressing dialogue and non-selectivity in human rights mechanisms.
Jaishankar also began an official visit to Azerbaijan, the first standalone foreign ministerial trip since 2018, to review ties centred on energy investment, trade, and people-to-people links, even as differences over Armenia and Pakistan persist.
