French Revolt Reaches Washington, D.C. | Americans Erupt In U.S. Capital As Europe Explodes | WATCH

France’s protest movement has drawn solidarity demonstrations across the Atlantic, with protesters gathering outside the French Embassy in Washington ahead of another nationwide mobilisation in France. Demonstrators carried signs including “Fund schools, not war” and criticised the Macron government’s spending priorities, policing of protests and support for the war in Iran. One demonstrator said Americans understood what it was like to have a government that “funds war” rather than the needs of ordinary people. The Washington rally also focused on allegations of excessive police force during France’s demonstrations, including the severe injury suffered by a 15-year-old. France’s movement began with students demanding better schools and education funding before expanding to encompass broader concerns over living costs and public services. French authorities said around 550,000 people participated in the previous weekend’s demonstrations, which also saw serious clashes, vandalism and looting. Now, ahead of another mobilisation, the political argument surrounding France’s streets is finding an audience in Washington.
