Saudi Arabia is turning to China to build longer-range ballistic missiles that could put Tehran within striking distance. Satellite images of the al-Duwadimi missile complex, west of Riyadh, suggest the kingdom is expanding its missile production capabilities, raising fresh questions about the future of the US-Saudi alliance.
Researchers analysing images captured by Planet Labs between April 2025 and September 2026 identified a new casting hall reportedly twice the size of the older facility. The expansion could signal Saudi Arabia's ambition to move beyond its existing Chinese-designed ballistic missiles towards weapons with significantly greater range. However, the exact missile type and production timeline remain unconfirmed.
