At least seven people have been killed and 34 others wounded after gunmen opened fire during a funeral service at Hamoud Church in Jordan’s southern governorate of Karak. The shocking attack unfolded as mourners gathered inside and around the Greek Orthodox church, with witnesses reporting that the attackers fired for around five minutes before fleeing the scene.
Jordanian authorities are investigating the shooting, with preliminary assessments pointing to a possible extremist motive linked to Takfiri ideology. Government spokesperson Mohammad al-Momani condemned the incident as a “painful, criminal and terrorist act,” while King Abdullah II vowed that those responsible would face the maximum legal penalties.
