‘WHY WOULD CANADA INTERFERE?’: Mark Carney Blasts Trump’s Midterms ‘Meddling’ Charge With Truth Bomb

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has rejected allegations from the United States that Canada is interfering in American elections, saying there is “no merit” to the claims. Speaking in Istanbul, Carney said he was disappointed that a US envoy had made such suggestions and stressed that Canadian officials are “very, very careful” not to interfere — or even be seen as interfering — in American democratic processes. But Carney also drew a distinction between election interference and Canada continuing to pursue its own interests while Americans are voting. “We don’t down tools because the United States is having elections,” Carney said, adding that Canadian actions are not designed to influence the US political process. His remarks come amid heightened tensions between Ottawa and Washington, with the Trump administration and Canadian government already clashing over trade, tariffs and the future of the bilateral relationship.
