ON CAM: Mark Carney SNUBS Trump’s ‘Biggest’ Demand; ‘Canada Will Never Be 51st State’ | TARIFF WAR

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has issued another unequivocal response to Donald Trump’s past suggestions about Canada becoming America’s 51st state, declaring that it will “never” happen. Speaking during his visit to Türkiye, Carney said the US president was “under no illusions” about Ottawa’s position and that it was clear where he, Canada and Canadians stood. His remarks came as relations between the neighbours remain strained by trade disputes and accusations from Washington that Canadian officials have interfered in US politics. Carney rejected those allegations as baseless. Carney’s Türkiye visit is also part of Ottawa’s push to diversify its economic relationships beyond the United States. Canada has pledged to double non-US trade over the next decade and is strengthening ties with partners including Türkiye.
