Typhoon Champi Hits Taiwan: Many Injured, Schools Shut & Hundreds Of Flights Cancelled | Originals

Typhoon Champi approached Taiwan with heavy rainfall and powerful winds, prompting widespread closures, mass evacuations, and major travel disruptions. At least one person was killed and 94 others were injured, while nearly 1,300 residents were evacuated from mountainous areas as authorities prepared for the storm's impact. Almost all of Taiwan was shut down on Friday as a precautionary measure. According to the transport ministry, all 262 domestic flights and more than 350 international flights were cancelled, leaving thousands of travellers facing disruptions. The typhoon recorded wind gusts of up to 191 km/h and was located around 320 kilometres east of Taiwan's southern tip. Although Champi had weakened, it remained a potential threat, with forecasts indicating that it could still make landfall before moving towards China and southern Japan. Authorities continued to monitor the storm as concerns over flooding, landslides, and further damage remained.
