Carney’s ‘BIGGEST SNUB’ To Trump, Courts U.S. Ally Erdogan For Canada’s ‘DUMP AMERICA’ Campaign
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is turning towards Turkey as Ottawa tries to reduce its heavy economic dependence on the United States amid Donald Trump’s tariffs and worsening bilateral tensions. Carney arrived in Ankara for talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the first dedicated bilateral visit to Turkey by a Canadian prime minister. Nearly 70% of Canadian exports still go to the United States, leaving Ottawa highly exposed when relations with Washington deteriorate. Canada and Turkey are exploring deeper cooperation in trade, defence and energy while negotiating a comprehensive free-trade agreement. Potential areas include Canadian LNG, critical minerals, nuclear technology, drones and naval systems. Carney has set a goal of doubling Canada’s non-US exports over the next decade and has pursued stronger economic relationships with other major powers. His Turkey visit underscores that strategy: Washington remains Canada’s dominant economic partner, but Ottawa is seeking alternatives to reduce its vulnerability to American pressure.
