‘Dark’ Tanker ON FIRE In Hormuz: IRGC’s ‘Hunt & Destroy’ Operation Against ‘Illegal’ Vessel Entries

Iran says it has adopted a “new deployment posture” extending beyond the Strait of Hormuz into the Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea, as another oil tanker catches fire near waters Tehran describes as restricted. According to Iran’s Navy, the tanker was sailing east of Hormuz with its tracking systems switched off when it attempted to enter the restricted area. Iranian forces detected the vessel before it was damaged and caught fire. The Navy has not said Iranian forces attacked the tanker, and the cause of the damage remains unclear. Tehran says its expanded deployment allows maritime traffic and the activities of foreign forces to be monitored “continuously and in real-time.” The announcement follows several tanker incidents around Hormuz involving vessels Iran says violated restrictions or navigation rules. The latest posture signals that Tehran’s maritime monitoring is no longer focused solely on the strategic chokepoint, but extends into waters carrying critical international energy traffic.
