President Donald Trump’s White House says U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle has been asked to resign, bringing her turbulent tenure in Athens to an abrupt end. Press Secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed the move on October 13, saying Guilfoyle had been “a wonderful asset to the team” while announcing her exit.

The decision follows allegations that Guilfoyle asked a Trump donor to cover a $100,000 credit-card bill while offering access to administration officials in return. Guilfoyle has denied wrongdoing through her lawyers, and the State Department inspector general has been reviewing the allegations.
