'NO SIRENS, MISSILES HAD FREE REIN': US Tech Fail To Alert Saudi Arabia Amid Houthi Attack?
Saudi Arabia’s public warning system reportedly stopped issuing alerts days before four deadly attacks on Riyadh airport killed at least 18 people and wounded more than 300. According to Reuters, the last alert before the attacks was issued on September 29, despite growing threats from Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis. Officials reportedly cited concerns that nighttime warnings were disruptive, although Saudi authorities have not explained why the alerts stopped. The resumption of warnings on Monday has raised further questions about public safety, government messaging and the kingdom’s ability to protect residents and visitors.
