Trump’s Greenland Power Play! U.S. ‘STALKS’ Putin’s ‘War Fleet’ In Arctic, Expands Military | Watch
The United States is gaining new military access in Greenland under a security agreement with Denmark and Greenland, potentially strengthening Washington’s position near a strategically important route used by Russian submarines moving towards the North Atlantic.
The agreement gives the US access to Narsarsuaq in southern Greenland. Arctic security expert Troy Bouffard told Sputnik the location could support logistics, surveillance and anti-submarine operations near the western approaches to the Greenland-Iceland-UK, or GIUK, gap. The corridor was a critical NATO surveillance zone during the Cold War because Soviet submarines used surrounding waters to reach the Atlantic. The agreement also covers Mestersvig in eastern Greenland, which could potentially support communications, radar and unmanned systems. No new permanent US deployment at either location has been announced. According to Bouffard, the agreement also prevents non-NATO countries from establishing military installations in Greenland amid growing strategic competition involving Russia and China in the Arctic.
