Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth came under sharp questioning on Capitol Hill over whether the Trump administration’s Iran war is stretching U.S. military power while leaving Washington exposed to bigger strategic threats from China, Russia and North Korea.
Rep. Joe Courtney cited the Pentagon’s own National Defense Strategy, saying China was ranked the top threat, Russia’s nuclear force posed the second major threat to the U.S. homeland, and North Korea — whose missiles can reach U.S. territory — ranked third. Iran, by contrast, had been described before the war as “weaker and more vulnerable than it has been in decades.”
