Netanyahu Announces Highest Honour For Flydubai Pilot Smit Machchhar On Israel's I-Day | Originals

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has praised flydubai Captain Smit Machchhar for his actions during the September 30 mid-air emergency, calling him a “hero for Israel, India and the entire world.”

Netanyahu invited Captain Machchhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Israel’s Independence Day ceremony and asked the pilot to light a ceremonial torch, describing it as one of the country’s highest Independence Day honours.

The recognition follows an alleged mid-air attack on flydubai Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv. According to the report, co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami allegedly attacked Machchhar with an axe, triggering a rapid descent and a hijacking distress signal. Machchhar subsequently helped passengers gain access to the cockpit and subdue the co-pilot.
