A local hospitality initiative has successfully recovered and redistributed more than 500,000 meals to residents experiencing severe food insecurity. CTV's Patricia Boal reports that Ottawa Tourism president Michael Crockatt says the À La Carte program partners with 23 local venues and caterers to rescue surplus meals that would otherwise be thrown in the garbage. The organization launched the destination-led food recovery project in 2024 alongside La Tablée des Chefs to prevent massive amounts of high-quality hotel food from entering landfills. The unique environmental partnership has also diverted approximately 150,000 kilograms of solid waste and conserved an estimated 148 million litres of water since its inception.
