Flydubai Hijack Scare: Co-Pilot Allegedly Attacked Captain Smit Machchhar With Axe | WION Originals

The UAE says the co-pilot of a Flydubai flight allegedly attacked Indian captain Smit Machchhar with an axe during a Tel Aviv-bound flight and attempted to take control of the aircraft.

The co-pilot, identified as Omani national Hamam al Hammami, is also reported to have previously faced restrictions on flying in Oman over concerns about alleged extremist views. Investigators are probing the incident, including the suspect’s motives and whether he acted alone or had any links to extremist groups.

The aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after the cockpit attack.
