South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has sharply criticised Ukraine over the disclosure of the transfer of two captured North Korean soldiers to Seoul.
South Korea says Ukraine had agreed to keep the transfer confidential, but President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later revealed it during his UN General Assembly address. Kyiv subsequently disputed that a secrecy agreement existed.
Lee is now demanding that Ukraine acknowledge the agreement and publicly apologise, warning of “additional measures” if it refuses. He has also accused Ukraine of effectively “praying for” war on the Korean Peninsula after Ukrainian warnings about the risk of a future conflict involving North Korea.
Kyiv has described the dispute as a diplomatic misunderstanding and says it hopes the row can be resolved.
