Around 350 schools across France have faced closures or blockages as students at lycées – the final three years of secondary education – protest against long 8‑to‑6 days, overcrowded and overheated classrooms, and a shortage of teachers. The interior ministry says the movement is spreading and has condemned violence at some sites, though pupils in Paris stress their protest is peaceful. It comes as the government seeks to shave $61bn off next year’s budget and freeze public sector pay, with calls for nationwide school blockages next week.
